“Open Hearing: Dreaming in Dark Times” took place on March 2, 2025 and offered open discussion around the future of Toronto’s art ecosystem. Based on the structure of a town hall, and inspired by the Art Workers Coalition’s “Open Hearing” held in New York in 1969, the event sought to generate conversation, ideas and solutions for a wide range of problems artists and arts workers navigate including funding linked to colonial extraction and imperial occupation. This dispatch includes transcripts from the gathering; a window into the conversations charting paths forward.
